Volunteers at our gardens help to ensure the health and productivity of our crops. Activities can include weeding, watering, and other maintenance to help our gardens and crops thrive.
Events are a way to reach out and teach our community about our mission of local farming and food production. Volunteers are the lifeline of our events. Event volunteers help with set-up, execution, and teardown of the event.
Farmer's market are a great way for Farmnet NPR to share our harvests with our local community, as well as share information on our local activities. Volunteers will help at booths at various markets in the community.
Our biggest current volunteer need is for our upcoming Loquat harvest.
Loquat Harvesting will be only a 2-hour commitment of fun and learning.
We are harvesting loquats to make jellies, jams, and other loquat goodies for loquat festival. Most years this has been done by the Grand Gardens community garden members, but this year we are recruiting anyone interested to ensure lots of fruit is available. It is also the kind of easy event that everyone enjoys and should take part in at least once! The trees we regularly pick from are in NPR, but we also extend out to Port Richey, Hudson, Tarpon Springs, and wherever we are invited to go.
We will cover:
· How to harvest
· The different types varieties of loquats
· Some history of Loquats, etc.
